Choosing the right installer
So, you’re thinking about getting a heat pump installed, and now you’re wondering, how do I choose the right installer? It’s an important decision, and you want to make sure you’re in safe hands! Here’s what you should look for:
1. Reviews and Testimonials – What are other customers saying? It’s a quick way to gauge quality.
2. Accreditations and Training – Look for certifications from trusted organisations like Heat Geek and BPEC, or manufacturer training.
3. Customer References and Case Studies – Ask for examples of past work. A good installer will have no problem showing you!
4. Approach to Installation – Are they using best practices, like weather compensation controls, and open loop design.
5. Technical expertise- Are you dealing with a professional, or a salesman?
6. Local Support – Are they nearby for any aftercare or servicing down the line? Do you want them travelling several hours in their diesel van to install your eco friendly technology?
7. Quality of Equipment – Do they install reliable, high-performance units?
Something to be aware of, particularly for if you want the BUS grant, is you don't need an MCS registered installer, and MCS on it's own does not guarantee you'll get a good installation. However, your installer at least need to work with an MCS umbrella scheme.
The best installers can be found both on and off the MCS register so the points previously mentioned, are more important to ensure you get a system that works as well as possible.
Remember, cost is important, but investing in a quality installation pays off in the long run with lower running costs and a longer lifespan. A good job now means fewer problems later!
